A teenager had a taste of university life as part of a special project.

Hannah Staggs from Romford spent a week trying out life as a Cambridge undergraduate as part of the 2013 Cambridge University Students’ Union (CUSU) Shadowing scheme.

The project saw Hannah, 17 teaming up with a student from Clare College and attending lectures, supervisions and social events.

Hannah, who is interested in studying natural sciences, wanted to take part in the scheme to see what it would be really like to go to Cambridge and to find out more about the course.

She said: “It’s been an amazing experience.

“I was unsure about applying to Cambridge but now I know that I would love to come here.”

This year’s scheme was the biggest in its 13 year history.

Organised by CUSU, it aims to give bright young people from non-university backgrounds the opportunity to experience life at a top university.

Vicky Hudson, access officer for CUSU and one of the organisers of the scheme said: “The shadowing scheme, is one of the best ways of showing potential students the real Cambridge and I’m delighted that this year we were able to welcome almost 400 young people to the university.”
