The 170 winners of the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards received medallions at the Queen’s Theatre in Billet Lane to go with a framed certificate and cheque for £200, already presented.

The 11 to 25-year-olds from 22 schools and colleges were nominated by their peers and leaders, winning awards for a variety of achievements – but mostly for doing their best.

Presentations were made by Deputy Mayor Linda Trew and Cllr Wendy Brice-Thompson.

Winners included Daniella Asare, 16, from The Brittons Academy, and Luke Mason, 13, from Corbets Tey School.

Prefect Daniella volunteered to help at the academy’s summer school held during the first two weeks of the holiday for students who were joining Year Seven in September.

Luke was recognised for showing kindness towards less able children.

Nine adults were also celebrated with leader awards for demonstrating, in an outstanding way, an ability to motivate young people. They received a medallion and a framed certificate.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up in 1999 to recognise the positive contributions young people make to society and to support them in achieving their potential.

Founder Jack Petchey CBE, aged 88, said: “I am passionate about our awards scheme which enables young people to be recognised, valued and rewarded for their achievements and positive contributions to society.”
