A 36-year-old Romford man has been arrested at Dover’s Eastern Docks after border forces uncovered 48 kilos of heroin and 34 kilos of cocaine last week.

Using a detector dog, officers made the discovery when searching a British-registered lorry and its load of roofing materials on April 9.

The man has been bailed until June 4.

The drugs, once cut and sold on the streets, have a potential street value running into millions of pounds.

Paul Morgan, director of Border Force South East and Europe, said:

“Heroin and cocaine are vile and destructive drugs, which ruin the lives of users and the wider community.

“Border Force officers are on constant alert to keep illegal drugs and other banned substances out of the UK.”
