Drinkers dug deep to donate more than £2,000 to the Poppy Appeal.
The money was dropped into collection boxes by regulars at the Harrow Pub, Hornchurch, last year, and a cheque for £2,279.66 was presented to the Hornchurch Royal British Legion on Thursday, January 17.
Sarah Jefferies, pub manager, handed the cheque to Wendy Neal, who organised the Hornchurch appeal along with fellow legion member Terry Minshaw.
Mrs Neal, who is also the legion’s vice chair, said: “Mrs Minshaw and I would like to thank all the residents of Hornchurch for their generous donations during remembrance time, November 2012.”
The donation brings the total raised by the Hornchurch Poppy Appeal to £52,055.49. The money will be used to help injured servicemen and women and their families.
The husband of a police officer, who was left lying in a pool of blood after an unprovoked attack in a pub in Rainham, has said he has no memory of the beating.
