A group of talented young artists have had an early brush with success after receiving a prestigious award for their work.

Pupils from Scargill Infant School, in Mungo Park Road, Rainham, took on numerous tasks and projects in order to achieve the Artsmark Award from Arts Council England.

Speaking about the success, Kath Keeper, head teacher, said: “Judy Munford, deputy head teacher together with Victoria Jolly and arts teaching assistant, Tina Finn, had worked tirelessly to ensure that the children have the experiences at the school to enable this achievement.”

The assessor from Trinity College London wrote a report about the school’s work.

It stated the “creative curriculum” was delivered to “exceptionally high standards” and that the work displayed around the school is “virbant and reflections attention to detail even from the youngest students.”

Projects included the Colchcester Zoo Giraffe Project, A New Direction’s Clay project from Around the World, and the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms Indian Block Printing Project.
