Rainham man ordered to pay £145 for carrying ‘offensive weapon’ - a rolling pin

Carrying a rolling pin in public cost a man £145.
Tony Eggleton, of Braeburn Court, Rainham, was carrying the kitchenware – which the court deemed an offensive weapon – in Chantry Way on January 15.
Barkingside magistrates ordered him to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs on February 25.
The 39-year-old also pleaded guilty to using racially aggravated threats, abuse or insults towards Pc Ryan Grewal, also in Chantry Way, and to using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour towards Lesley Willard at Lowen Road Newsagents, Lowen Road, Rainham. Both offences took place on January 15.
In respect of all three charges, Eggleton was given a daily curfew between 7pm and 7am.
The court ordered the destruction of the rolling pin.
