Planning: Gidea Park care home to be demolished and rebuilt following Havering Council decision

A Gidea Park care home will be demolished and rebuilt after Havering Council gave the go-ahead.

Extensions to the Moreland Care Home in Manor Road have already been approved, and under last week’s decision at the council’s planning meeting these will be retained.

But the building to which they are now joined will be knocked down, built to a different spec and then reattached.

Deputy council leader Cllr Steven Kelly (Conservative, Emerson Park) said the changes to the outside of the care home would be “absolutely minimal”. However, the internal design will be made more efficient, increasing its 16 rooms to 40.

There will also be more staff needed – 40 compared with the 18 now employed.

Ten parking spaces for staff will be provided as part of the proposal.

The plans were passed unanimously.
