The new Residents’ Association councillors in Elm Park “did not expect such a majority.”

Speaking to the Recorder, Barry Muggleston, who received 1,691 votes, said: “The only difference is we now have Cllr in front of our names. Other people have come to the election who have done nothing, it’s true.”

Stephanie Nunn, who drew 1,598 votes, added: “I’m over the moon. We didn’t expect such a majority. We thought it would be close, but we’ve been to every street in the ward. We’d like to thank all the people who voted for us.”

Julie Wilkes makes up the final seat in the ward, which has seen three Tory councillors lose their seats.

One of the Tory’s losses is Cllr Barry Tebbutt who is a cabinet member in charge of client services. He received 494 votes

Conservatives Cllr Rebbecca Bennett and Cllr Barry Oddy received 781 and 609 votes respectively.

The turnout in Elm Park was lower than the previous wards at 34 per cent.
