Police officers are joining the fundraising campaign for a seven-year-old cancer sufferer.
Joni-Mai Stevens, who late last year was diagnosed with the rare Ewing’s Sarcoma for the second time after first beating in 2011, requires potentially life saving treatment in the USA.
The Recorder has covered previous fundraisers for Joni-Mai, of Hornchurch, and now the met are extending the long arm of the law to help with her cause.
Officers, including Havering Volunteer Police Cadets, are helping to raise funds for Joni-Mai and her family by hosting a series of events over the coming months.
A 10km invitational run in Hyde Park at 11am on Thursday will kick start the campaign, with the next event, another 10km run, in St James’ Park, scheduled for April 16 at the same time.
A 50-mile cycle from Scotland Yard to Hornchurch on April 27 and two more Hyde Park events in May and June will complete the campaign.
Participants will need 10 people to sponsor them for £5 each. More information can be found at facebook.com/fortheloveofjoni and donations can be made at gofundme.com/fortheloveofjoni.
