The station was evacuated this morning and the British Transport Police said her family and next of kin have been informed.

British Transport Police has confirmed that it was a woman in her 40s that died at Romford station this morning.

BTP said that her family and next of kin have been informed.

The station was evacuated at around 10.15 this morning (Thursday, July 5) and passengers were told to leave and wait outside.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman has confirmed officers were called to the incident at 10.17am, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

One person who was in the station told the Recorder: “I heard a loud crack, and then there was an announcement to say that the station was being evacuated.”

Services resumed at around lunchtime, after trains both in and out of Romford had earlier been cancelled.
