Police appeal for witnesses after 80-year-old cyclist killed in Romford collision

Officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses after an 80-year-old man was killed in Romford this afternoon (December 19).

Police were called to London Road at 3.08pm to reports of a road traffic collision.

At the scene a cyclist had been in collision with a heavy goods vehicle [HGV]. The cyclist, an 80-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin have been notified. However, we await formal identification.

A postmortem will be scheduled in due course.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene. There have been no arrests.

Cordons and closures are in place.

Significant disruption to local traffic is expected. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes where possible.
