A Hornchurch charity fund is piggybacking on the back of a viral online trend which asks men to post pictures of themselves wearing make-up, with some hilarious - and frightening - results.
Husbands and boyfriends have been raiding make-up drawers and uploading the results for The Mitchell Huth Memorial Fund, set up in memory of the tragic Hornchurch boy who died of aggressive childhood cancer, neuroblastoma, aged just seven.
Mum Kristel Huth, of Wingletye Lane, said: “Mitchell used to love putting on my nail varnish and red lipstick so I thought it would be fun if men could do the same and donate to the fund.
“But it started spiralling out of control and men have been posting pictures of themselves in wigs and bras. It’s gone absolutely mad; my phone won’t stop buzzing.”
After donating and posting a selfie on Faceboook and Twitter under the hashtag #fullmakeupselfie, men then nominate a friend to do the same.
Kristel is yet to find out how much has been raised but she believes it could be hundreds of pounds.
Her Facebook group Men’s Full Make Up Selfie in aid of the Mitchell Huth Memorial Fund has nearly 900 members and boasts dozens of pictures. Check out our gallery, right.
She wrote: “Let’s make this group big! I’m the first to say women do it all and get all the credit so come on men get sharing! Let’s do this for out babies; you never know what’s round the corner.”
The local craze mirrors “man up and make up”, currently trending across the UK, which see donations go to Prostate Cancer UK.
“Man up and make up” itself is a take on the viral “no make-up selfie”, where woman raised more than £1m for Cancer Research UK in 24 hours. by posting make-up-free pictures online,
Mitchell died in August 2012 following a harrowing two-year battle with the nerve disease.
His family and friends set up the fund to provide financial help for other families going through the same ordeal.
