A Romford junior school has been recognised for its eco work, gaining “green flag” status.
Parklands was made a green flag school by Eco-Schools England for achievements like securing free solar panels, converting to LED lighting, building a plastic bottle greenhouse and running a “green week” with guest speakers.
The Havering Road school has also won a gold “walk to school” award, a bronze “Food for Life” award and a Royal Horticultural Society level 3 gardening award over the last four years.
Its eco group is led by Elaine Cappi and Peter Johnson.
Mrs Cappi said: “It has been a pleasure to lead such an enthusiastic group of children and see how they have influenced the thinking of both adults and children in the school environment.
“All the pupils have taken the messages home so hopefully we have influenced the wider community as well.”
