The deputy leader of Havering Council has said that school meals in Havering do not contain any horse meat.

His statement came in the wake of an investigation by the Food Standards Agency after traces of horse meat was found in food labelled as beef.

Cllr Steven Kelly said: “All of our meat supplies are fully traceable including meat used in school meals and our meals on wheels service.

“We have set high standards for suppliers and the sourcing and origin of food supplies.

“Our major suppliers have reassured us that there is no concern with any of their products.”
