The simple act of recycling will now earn you rewards thanks to a new scheme launched yesterday.

London Green Points Havering aims to encourage residents to waste less and recycle more and over the next six weeks, every household in the borough will receive an activation pack.

Accounts can be activated online, following which residents will receive a card - which points will be credited to depending on how much recycling has been done in their area of the borough.

Ambassador for the project and radio presenter, Neil “Dr” Fox, is urging people to get involved in the “great” scheme.

“Residents will be able to earn points for reducing, reusing and recycling their rubbish,” he explained,

“These points can be donated to community projects in Havering or spent on iTunes vouchers and loads of other great rewards.

“The card can also be used for discounts from lots of local retailers, so this really is a win/win for everyone!”

Cllr Barry Tebbutt, cabinet member for streetcare, said: “We’ve made great progress in recent years in this area and this scheme will help us get even better at protecting the environment.

“I really hope people get involved and activate their cards as soon as they come through their doors.”
