A mother of two wants to reduce the cost of being a parent by launching a business selling children’s clothes for a bargain.

Deanne Jones, from Upminster, “learnt the hard way” when she tried to buy cheap clothes for sons, Dylan, two, and Ryan, one.

“It is so expensive to buy new clothes and they grow out of them so quickly,” she said.

After several attempts to sell the outgrown clothes online with little luck, Mrs Jones decided to launch an enterprise to enable parents to sell and buy second-hand clothes.

Her newly founded business Swapseez UK buys clothes, toys and large items such as cots, high chairs and car seats from parents who don’t need them anymore and sells them on to people who do.

“When I was first pregnant three years ago, it was very over-whelming – everything was expensive and you don’t always know what you need when you are a first time mum,” she said.

With the help of her husband Mike, Mrs Jones organised the first Swapseez sale last Monday at Cranham Community Centre, attended by about 50 people.

From the stock of their own baby clothes and help from friends, the couple managed to collect 70 boxes full of items.

Customers could also order from an online catalogue for larger items and were able to sell items from 20p for a small piece of clothing – which will be sold on for 50p.

“We want to be as honest and as transparent as possible so that everybody can get a fair deal,” said Mrs Jones.

A former behaviour specialist working with children with autism, Mrs Jones stopped working when she became a mum but is keen to become an entrepreneur.

“I want to use this as a platform to get back into the work mindset – hopefully it will come to be successful,” she said.

Swapseez will buy and sell every Monday from 9am to noon at Cranham Community Centre, Marlborough Gardens, until March 21. But Mrs Jones hopes the family venture will take them much further into the future.
