The dad of killed Romford soldier Kirk Redpath, a schoolfriend of Woolwich murderer Michael Adebolajo, has called for his son’s former classmate to be executed.
Colin Redpath, 56, of Hornchurch, told the Romford Recorder: “The only good terrorist is a dead terrorist.”
He added what Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, did to Fusilier Lee Rigby in May was “treason”.
“He killed a soldier and he was born in this country,” he said.
“It should be the death penalty for what they did on the streets of London.”
Adebolajo is believed to have attended Kirk’s funeral in 2007. L/Cpl Redpath was killed at the age of 22 by an improvised explosive device (IED) while on duty in Iraq.
Mr Redpath said it was “astonishing” the former Marshalls Park pupil could have murdered a soldier in broad daylight.
“I don’t think they were great friends,” he said. “If they were, I would have met him, but I never knew him.
“But I just find it astonishing that a pupil who went to Marshalls Park with both my sons, and who went to my son’s funeral, would then suddenly kill a soldier so many years later.
“It just doesn’t add up.”
Kirk, too, would have wanted his friend executed, Mr Redpath said, for killing Fusilier Rigby.
“He would have thought the same,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s the good guys and the bad guys.”
An Old Bailey jury convicted Adebolajo and Adebowale of Drummer Rigby’s murder earlier today, but acquitted the pair of attempted murder of a police officer. They will be sentenced next year.
