An obese man lost more than six stone in weight by drinking only juices for three months after being inspired to beat the bulge by a TV documentary.
Now Chris Treloar, who has struggled with his weight for most of his life, is preparing to run the London Marathon.
Chris, 30, who recently moved from Romford to Ager Avenue, Dagenham, took to juice fasting. It is a diet where you only drink juices made up of fruit and vegetables, as well as water. He is now looking forward to the marathon on Sunday, April 13.
He said: “Though my weight has fluctuated over the years, I’ve always had an addiction to food that I couldn’t control.
“My relationship with food got progressively worse as I got older, to the point of eating fast-food most days and binge eating late at night on whatever I could find.”
It was after he watched a Channel 5 documentary called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead that he convinced himself that juice fasting was the way forward.
Chris said: “I read a tweet from a friend of mine in Scotland saying he’d lost a tremendous amount of weight in seven days and put it all down to that documentary.
“I didn’t eat fruit or vegetables unless ‘encouraged’ but thought I might as well give it a go. But after the first day I’d lost five pounds and there was no stopping me after that.”
With the help of this diet, as well as exercise and a healthier attitude to food, Chris has lost more than six stone in 96 days.
Now he is celebrating by taking part in the London Marathon, raising money for Treloar Trust, which happens to share his name. It provides education and care to young people with physical disabilities in the UK and abroad.
Chris has also been approached through social media by those organising the London Marathon and will be interviewed by race organisers on the day.
He said: “Everyone who has tried this diet has had positive results.
“They needn’t go to the extreme that I did, instead they can just introduce a juice to their daily diet to benefit from the fruit and vegetables.
“My aim is to encourage and inspire others with similar issues with food that I had.”
