Albert Moss, 67, of Marchmant Close, was on holiday in Majorca when he fell ill and thought he had suffered a mini stroke.

After doctors told him his white blood count was low he visited Queen’s Hospital immediately on his return where he was tested, and three days later was diagnosed with leukaemia.

The disease had affected 93 per cent of his bone marrow and without treatment doctors said he only had five to six weeks to live, but five treatments later the disease has now been reduced to 25 per cent.

Excellent

Albert said: “They offered me the treatment really quickly and I have had excellent results.

“They saved my life – definitely. Without their diagnosis and quick treatment I would be dead.

“I didn’t realise how ill I had been until I was on holiday and they have done so much for me since I started treatment with them. I think the care I have received has been excellent.”

His wife Victoria said: “They have been brilliant all the way through and the dedication of the staff has been amazing.

“We have been going twice a week for scans, tests and treatment. We have been happy with all the care they have given.”

Ian Grant, associate medical director for cancer services for Barking, Redbridge and Havering University Hospitals, said: “I am delighted that Mr Moss is so happy with the care he has received at the Trust.

“It is particularly pleasing that he has highlighted the care in various different departments.

“It shows that we are working as a team across the hospital to give patients the best possible care wherever they are.

“We are truly grateful when people give us positive feedback, and I will pass on his comments to all the staff involved”
