A man was taken to hospital suffering burns, electric shock and smoke inhalation after a blaze took hold of the electric intake room of a Harold Hill block.
Firefighters also evacuated seven adults and three children from the building, but luckily none of them was hurt.
The man, 26, is thought to have been working in the ground-floor room when the fire broke out at 12.02pm.
A crew from Harold Hill Fire Station was first on the scene, and found the man on the ground outside the three-storey building in Neave Crescent.
It was joined by a crew from Hornchurch.
London Fire Brigade said the cause of the fire, which destroyed 100 per cent of the intake room, was being investigated.
An ambulance crew treated the man before taking him to Queen’s Hospital, Romford. He was conscious.
