It may have started off as a joke, but Danny Stokes is in full training mode for the London Marathon and all set for race day.

Danny, 30, who is a Surveyor with NC Construction Ltd - one of the charity’s corporate partners - put himself forward to run the 26.2mile course around the country’s capital, never expecting to be lucky enough to get a place!

“One Friday we were talking about what event everyone could do to raise money for Saint Francis Hospice and I said, put me down for the Marathon.

“I never really thought I’d get one of the charity’s Gold places as they are so hard to come by!”

When Danny donated Christmas hampers to the hospice he had the chance to find out more about the valuable services it provides.

“After being at the hospice and learning more about it, it really hit home and it gave me even more willingness to do it,” said Danny.
