An IT manager is celebrating after winning the first prize in the St Francis Hospice lottery draw.
Paul Cullender, from Hornchurch won £1,000 in the lottery draw on Friday January 18.
He said: “The win came completely out of the blue.
“It had slipped my mind that I was even playing the Saint Francis Hospice lottery because I pay by direct debit and it’s such a small amount, just £1 a week to play, that you don’t even notice it. Winning £1,000 on this lottery is certainly more than the tenner I’ve ever won on the National Lottery!”
The 40-year-old who works in South London, signed up for the lottery after Mark Ball, an ambassador for the hospice, knocked on his door just over a year ago.
He said: “My nan passed away at another hospice and I know how well they looked after her so when Mark asked if I could sign up to support Saint Francis Hospice I was happy to do so as it’s such a worthwhile local cause”
He plans to put his winnings towards a family holiday in Florida later this year as they weren’t able to take a holiday together in 2012.
You can sign up to the St Francis Hospice lottery at at www.sfh.org.uk or call 01708 771433 to buy tickets, or visit any Saint Francis Hospice shop to buy a lottery gift voucher as a present.
