A Hornchurch teenager who shaved her head to support her mother in her cancer battle has raised more than £1,600.
Kelly Stubbington, 16, of Hawkinge Way, has seen her fundraising page flooded with donations for Cancer Research UK, giving her a total of £1,668.
Kelly, whose original target was only £200, said goodbye to her long locks at the Hair Design Salon in Elm Park Avenue on August 30.
She said: “Everybody has been telling me they are proud of me and I have had people tell me I’m an inspiration, which is quite nice to hear.
“My mum is more of an inspiration, but it makes me feel like I have got good support as well.”
Kelly’s mum Sarah, 47, is currently undertaking her second bout of chemotherapy, to ensure her breast cancer does not return.
Her treatment will finish shortly before Christmas.
Kelly, despite being nervous before the event, said: “To be honest I prefer my hair short at the moment because of the heat!
“I would like to thank everyone who turned up and everyone who has donated.
“I’m so close to £2,000 now that it would be really good if I could reach that.”
