Hornchurch tandoori restaurant owner served £5,000 court bill

16:30 09 May 2014

A tandoori restaurant owner was served up a court bill of almost £5,000 for dishing out food after hours.

Irshadur Rahman of Akash Tandoori Restaurant in High Street, Hornchurch sells a variety of Indian dishes and can sell hot food until 12.30am on a Saturday.

He was caught out when a mystery shopper purchased an order after that time, in May 2013.

ON April 28 at Romford Magistrates’ Court, Rahman was fined £1,500 plus a £150 victim surcharge and £3,129 in costs for selling a takeaway meal for one.

A council spokesman said: “License holders must comply with the rules of their license. Those who want to change their hours can apply to the council have the hours revised.”
