Two men stole £2,500 worth of fuel from a Romford farm.
David Dwyer, of Goodwood Avenue, Hornchurch, and Anthony Griffiths, of Roborough Walk, Hornchurch, took the red diesel – which is used to power agricultural vehicles – from Crown Farm on the A12.
Dwyer, 28, and Griffiths, 26, committed the crime on December 11 last year.
Each defendant was ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge, and both must carry out 40 hours’ unpaid work.
The sentence was handed out at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on February 25.
A man was robbed of his phone, money and ordered to leave a train at Upminster station in a “terrifying ordeal”, transport police said.
