Hornchurch charity football match will kick off fundraising campaign

A group of sports loving friends will take part in a charity football match on Sunday before a mammoth rowing challenge in June.

Eight 40-62 year-olds led by Asa Pamplin will row 150 miles from Lechlade to the Isle of Dogs later this year to raise money for four charities - though none of them have ever set foot in a boat.

“I don’t know what pub that idea was thought up in,” said Asa, “we’ve been on the rowing machines and the training is hard, we’re looking to arrange our first session in a boat soon.”

The former Hornchurch FC player has kindly been given permission to use the football club’s ground in Bridge Ave, Upminster on Sunday for a match between Wapping vets and Stepney vets.

The match starts at 1.30pm and people are encouraged to attend. A donation of £2 can be made by buying a programme.

The four charities are the YJS Trust, Little Buds, which is part of the Darrent Valley Hospital in Dartford, St Thomas’ Hosptial and The Children’s Trust.
