Hornchurch Police Station to unlock cell doors - for open day

PUBLISHED: 16:20 12 September 2013 | UPDATED: 16:20 12 September 2013

If you’re keen to see the inside of a cell, Havering police have just the thing.

But don’t worry – you can leave whenever you like.

Pop down to Hornchurch Police Station’s open day on Sunday, September 22, and you can tour the building, watch self-defence demos, get your bike security marked, and even try out fingerprinting techniques.

The day runs from 11am until 3pm.

Visitors can also meet police cadets, explore police cars, get home safety advice and enjoy refreshments. Station mascot PCSO Steve is also tipped to make an appearance.

Met commissioner Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe said: “I want the Met to be an open organisation. We are accountable to the public. These open days symbolise that openness - and I hope people enjoy looking around their local station.

“We are very clear that we are here to serve London and by inviting the public into our police stations we can give an insight to our daily work to keep them safe and tackle criminals.

“I’d urge all Londoners to visit one of the police stations opening near them and learn more about the Met.”

Ch Insp David Hay added: “This is going to be a very enjoyable and interesting event. We have put in a great deal of hard work to ensure members of the public who attend will have a fantastic time.”
