Hope4Havering asks residents to have their say on proposal for Hornchurch home

A homeless charity that has been serving its community for the past six years with nowhere to call home, is asking residents for their views on a potential spot where it can settle down.
A public consultation has been launched by Hope4Havering, which provides a night shelter for those with nowhere to go, outlining a proposal to use the former Olympian Loans and Mortgages building in Hornchurch Road, Hornchurch, for the next two years.
Letters have been sent to residents in the area asking for their views.
The letter states: “For the past six years, the night shelter has been at different venues in Havering throughout the week, which has meant a lot of energy and effort is required each day to support this.
“Our aim is to prevent people who have just become homeless becoming rough sleepers.”
The charity has been operating a drop-in for its “night shelter guests” between 9am-12pm, Monday to Friday, from the Hornchurch site for the past six months but wants to be able to use the site permanently for the next 24 months.
The letter says those staying at the shelter would receive a hot meal and be offered help and advice in the morning to access housing, a job club and recovery services.
