The proposal for Havering to leave London will be discussed at tonight’s council meeting.

Councillor Lawrence Webb of Ukip put forward the motion for the outer London borough to become a unitary authority in order to have more control over planning decisions.

He says we need to be able to “take control” of what happens in our borough, instead of letting decisions be made by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan and City Hall.

But in retaliation, the Conservative group submitted a motion against Councillor Webb’s proposal saying that it would cause “considerable implications”.

More than 700 readers took the Recorder’s online poll, which asked whether this would be a good idea and just over 60per cent were against the motion.

The meeting will take place at Havering Town Hall at 7.30pm tonihgt.
