Two good causes in Romford scored hundreds of pounds in donations thanks to the generosity of golfers.

Stapleford Abbotts Men’s Senior Section (SAMSS), part of Stapleford Abbotts Golf Club in Tysea Hill, presented £1,000 to Heatherbrook Home, in Como Street, and £600 to Havering Samaritans, in North Street.

The cash was handed over at the club’s annual general meeting today.

Heatherbrook Home, which cares for dementia patients, will use the money for new TVs and a sound system.

SAMSS captain Bill Pinnock said Samaritans was a “very worthy, but unsung” group.
