Boris Johnson will not be running as an MP in Hornchurch and Upminster next year as Dame Angela Watkinson will stand again.

The decision, made on Friday evening last week, comes after much speculation that the current Mayor of London would replace the Tory MP.

Chairman of the Hornchurch and Upminster Conservatives, Cllr Steven Kelly, said: “I am sure Dame Angela will continue to rule the constituency with great care and consideration. She is at the top of her game at this moment in time and she is enjoying the freedom of being an MP.”

Speaking to the Recorder, Dame Angela said: “Representing the residents of Hornchurch and Upminster in parliament is my life – standing down had not occurred to me.”
