A bus driver recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease has said that £1,000 won by playing a hospice lottery will “really help”.

David Trendell, a 64-year-old bus driver on the 103 route, from Mawney Road, Romford, won the cash on the St Francis Hospice lottery.

He said: “I fell sick at work in June and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease so I’m currently off work and on sick pay so money’s tight and this win will really help” said David.”

Mawney Road has proved lucky for the players of the game with a fellow resident having won £10,500 on a rollover.

David signed up for the lottery after one of the hospice ambassadors called at his home two years ago.

He had heard about the work of the Havering-atte-Bower hospice through a good friend of his wife who has raised money for the charity.

David Holmes, Head of Individual Giving at Saint Francis Hospice said: “Thanks to our regular lottery players like David we can continue to offer excellent care to patients and their families affected by a life-limiting illness at no cost to those patients or families.

“In addition to our weekly first prize of £1,000 there’s a £13,500 rollover prize that can be won in a draw to be made on the 5th September. We will also have an extra bonus draw to win £10,000 to mark the third anniversary of our lottery on the 10th October! You can play our weekly lottery by signing up online at www.sfh.org.uk.”
