For most people a 60th birthday celebration might include a meal with friends, a holiday or simply a nice relaxing day, but not for Tesco Community Champion, Lesley Davey, who went on a 10k run to raise money for Diabetes UK.

The grandmother from Rainham decided to mark the milestone birthday by making a difference so pulled on her running shoes and set out for Ingrebourne Hill.

She said: “Diabetes UK is Tesco’s charity of the year and we have already raised hundreds of pounds at the store where I work at Roneo Corner. So with sponsorship from family and friends I set off to do my run at Ingrebourne Hill, a lovely country park in Havering that has pathways to Hornchurch, Upminster and Rainham.

“I really enjoyed the run and it felt good that I was raising money for such a good cause”.

Darren Earl, store manager at the Romford branch said: “Lesley is always full of energy and I am so pleased she has channelled this into raising money for Diabetes UK.”
