Fundraisers have continued their excellent efforts to help collect money for a young mum’s cancer medicine.

Over £3,000 has been raised in the past week for Carly Lovett’s medical fund, bringing the grand total raised since the Recorder first reported on her story two weeks ago to more than £9,500.

A man wax at Tesco Roneo Corner, Hornchurch, last week raised £1130 in just one afternoon.

Brave and hairy men, including cousins and friends of Carly’s husband, David, let people rip off waxing strips at £5 a go to put money towards her medicine which is not available on the NHS.

Carly, a 31-year-old mum from Harold Hill, has terminal brain cancer and is taking a life-prolonging drug called Avastin which is allowing her to spend extra valuable time with her eight-month-old son.

Ticket sales for the school disco fundraiser, organised by Carly’s sister Donna, have sky-rocketed in the last fortnight with 175 being sold.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

The Nail Studio on Station Lane in Hornchurch will be donating all of their proceeds to Carly’s fund following a charity manicure on September 7 while the mums of Rise Park school, where Carly used to work, have 20 collecting tins on the go with demand for more.

The money raised in the last fortnight will pay for almost two months’ of treatment for Carly and there is still a long way to go if the medicine continues to work.
