Havering have been given an extra £266,000 for pothole repairs as a result of additional government funding.

The move comes after the government set aside £140 million to meet the costs of repairs following the severe winter floods.

The additional funding, which has been distributed based on length of roads and condition data, must be used by the end of August with information published on the council website as to where the money has been spent.

Leader of the Residents’ Association, Cllr Clarence Barrett, whose party proposed improvements at the last full council, said: “Any additional funding is most welcome. However, it is important that the quality of repairs is such that the potholes don’t reappear after a few weeks as it is a false economy and is simply chucking money down a hole.”

Transport for London were given £10m to distribute to London boroughs for the work.
