A hospice which cares for patients with life-limiting illnesses is to receive nearly £2,000 from a television charity appeal.

Saint Francis Hospice will be given a share of approximately £1,800 from the £820,000 raised for Help the Hospices by ITV’s Text Santa initiative.

Help the Hospices is to split half of its fund equally between its member organisations, with the remaining £410,000 going towards its work nationally.

The CEO of Havering-atte-Bower-based Saint Francis Hospice, Pam Court, said: “I’m so pleased that thanks to ITV’s Text Santa and Help the Hospices the role that hospice’s like ours play in providing the very best in specialist care for people with complex needs related to life-limiting illness has been brought to the attention of a huge TV audience.”

Help the Hospices CEO David Praill said: “We are absolutely delighted with the generous amount of donations raised as a result of the Text Santa appeal.

“This money will help to make a huge difference to people’s lives across the length and breadth of the UK. Families who are facing a loss or who have lost a loved one will benefit from the vital care and support that local hospices provide.”
