Havering’s Friends of the Earth branch has been named runner-up “group of the year” by the charity’s national director.
Group coordinator Rosina Purnell said: “We were very proud to be nominated as a group of the year and receive a certificate from Andy Atkins, our executive director.
“We were congratulated on our innovative campaigning. We were described as dedicated in our vision for a just and sustainable world.”
Rosina said a key achievement for the group was its ongoing campaign to protect bees
Up to 80 people signed postcards at Friends of the Earth’s Havering Show stall asking David Cameron for a “bee action plan”.
“Already our success has meant that local community groups have invited us to come and speak at their meetings and events,” Rosina added.
