The trip was organised by Romford MP Andrew Rosindell, who studied at the college in the 1980s.

The students, who are all studying on the BTEC Level 1 Diploma for IT Users’ programme enjoyed a tour and took part in a workshop on democracy where student Jack Williams played the part of an election candidate.

The pupils were also able to put their questions to Mr Rosindell during a question and answer session.

IT Lecturer Laurence Turner said: “After a brief history talk the students were taken into the House of Commons to see a debate taking place. This was followed by a walk to Westminster Hall where they were shown the new stained glass window presented to the Queen in commemoration of her Diamond Jubilee.”

Student Toseef Iqbal said: “It was a great experience, especially seeing the debate.”

Classmate Fardosa Ahmed said: “It was a fantastic trip.”
