Dagenham teen Joe was handed the gong at the Institute of the Motor Industry’s Essex Member Association Awards, which took place at Havering College in Hornchurch last month.

Paul Webb, workshop manager at Gidea Park Autos, said: “Joe is an excellent apprentice. He listens, seems able to pick skills up easily and is ambitious.”

Sandeep Raju, 25, and Shaun Proctor, 19, both of Romford, received runner-up titles in the “level 2 light vehicle student of the year category”, while Collier Row man Ryan Patten, 31, came second in the level 3 category for the same award.
