Young people with learning difficulties and disabilities can prepare for the transition from school to college at a special event.

Havering College of Further and Higher Education is holding an event called Looking Forward 2013 on Wednesday Janaury 23 at the campus in Tring Gardens, Romford.

Starting from 4.30pm to 8pm, visitors can expect to get information on Havering College courses and programmes, as well as volunteer oppertunities, supported living and future work oppertunities.

The event is part of a main college open event for all courses, which is taking place at the Quarles Campus on the same date.

Visitors will be able to tour the whole campus as well as the specialist exhibition area where they can chat to staff from the college’s ROSE programme, a project that helps young people with learning difficulties or disabilities to get into work.

Sharon Mills, the head of school for Foundation and Community Studies at Havering College said: “The tranistiion from school to college and on to adult life can be an anxious time for young people with disailbities, their families and their carers.

“We are staging this special event to ensure evryone receives the individual information, advice and guidance that is right for them.”
