The academy has been celebrating after announcing 81 per cent of its students had gained a place at university.

Head of sixth form Julie Armstrong said: “We are so proud of what our students have achieved today.

“They have worked exceptionally hard over the last two years and their results reflect this.

“Our Year 12 students have also achieved excellent AS results, placing them in a strong position for next year.”

Departing head girl Pauline Siasat achieved an A* in psychology, Bs in maths and biology and a C in chemistry.

These results mean Pauline can continue her dream of a career in medical research by going to the University of Essex to study biomedical sciences.

Shawn Harvey, departing head boy, will be going to study financial maths at the University of Kent after gaining Bs in maths and business studies and a C in physics.

Jamilla Dumbuya also achieved an excellent set of grades with Bs across the board in English language, media studies and psychology.

Jamilla will now go to the University of Leeds to study journalism.

Year 12 students also laid the foundations for a set of outstanding A-level results next year.

Katie Cook, deputy head girl, achieved three As in maths, biology and chemistry and a C in English literature.

In Year 13 Katie has chosen to continue studying her subjects where she achieved the three As.

Midi Timubu, head boy, gained two As in history and general studies and Bs in geography, English literature and psychology.

Keisha David, head girl, received Bs in maths, psychology and sociology.

And Matthew Wallis, deputy head boy, was awarded an A in product design and three Bs in business studies, biology and geography.

Acting co-principals Scott McGuiness and Sue Monk said: “These outstanding results are clear indicators of the positive impact the academy has made to the local community and seeing our students progress onto high education is remarkable.

“We would like to take this opportunity to wish the very best of luck to all our departing Year 13 students who have created history here today at Drapers’ Academy.”
