Harold Hill Post Office could ‘potentially’ be franchised out to interested parties

The Post Office is considering retailer options as it looks to potentially franchise a major branch in the borough.
Harold Hill’s Post Office in Farnham Road is currently directly run by the company but bosses are now exploring options.
The majority of branches across the country are run on an agency basis with retailers, with current directly-run stores looking for similar arrangements so they are sustainable in the future.
The Post Office advertised in the summer for businesses in the area to register an interest in working with them.
While there are no detailed proposals for Harold Hill, the Post Office has confirmed it is considering possibilities with those that came forward.
A spokeswoman for the Post Office said: “When we franchise a branch it typically offers the same services for customers as before and, in addition, franchised branches often have longer hours including Sunday opening for example.
“It’s a lower-cost way of sustaining our services on high streets in some areas.
“When we make a decision we will tell the staff at the branch of course and then embark on a six-week period of public consultation on the plans.”
