Instrument-wielding youngsters will perform at a music festival in the hope of wowing judges and progressing to the national final.

Fifteen music students from the Royal Liberty School in Upper Brentwood Road, Gidea Park, will travel to Ashford in Kent next weekend for the Music for Youth Regional Music Festival, where they will perform an eight-song medley for a panel of industry professionals.

The Year 7-11 students have been rehearsing twice a week under the name Into Liberty for two months to ensure they “wow judges and the audience” and will use their secret weapon, “famous bass lines.”

Di Russell, head of music, said: “With David Erinle and Tommy Easterbrook both playing bass guitar the rest of group take their positions as singers, beatboxers, rappers, mandolin players, drummers, ukulele players, saxophonists, guitarists, pianists, percussionists and ‘melodica-ists’. How can we fail to make an impression?”

Music for Youth is a national music education charity providing free access to performance and audience opportunities for young musicians across the UK.
