Deal or No Deal took it to a whole new level last week when one man was asked by the banker to propose to his girlfriend in front of a live audience.
James Bernie had been an avid watcher of the show and on a whim decided to apply to be a contestant.
Months later he got a call saying he was invited to an audition which proved to be just the start of his adventure.
During the show, and on his fourth offer from the banker, he was given the deal of £10,000, or if he proposed to his girlfriend on the show, a whopping £15,000.
James, 26, of Millbrook Gardens, Gidea Park, said: “I was terrified. I was really scared. I got down on one knee and said I don’t have a ring or anything. One of the other contestants gave me her ring and I said will you marry me?”
He proposed to his girlfriend of three years 24-year-old Natalie Crozier who said she was terrified but thrilled by the very public proposal.
“It’s everyone’s dream isn’t it?,” Natalie said. “I was completely shocked and didn’t expect it at all. I was a nervous wreck and ended up bursting into tears. I haven’t stopped smiling since.”
James said he applied to go on the show as they were trying to buy their first house together. They are now using the money to do up their new home.
“When I played my game I was freaking out,” he said. “Then when the banker said that, I had to think about it for a moment but I was going to propose anyway around Christmas time and we had talked about it.”
The show was aired on Tuesday of last week and the couple not only recorded it, but burned it onto a DVD so they could keep a copy of the rather public proposal forever.
