Students and staff at Gidea Park College are celebrating after qualifying for a highly-prestigious award for the quality of their science department.

The independent school in Balgores Lane has joined forces with the BBC to be awarded Terrific Scientific accreditation – an award that means the school has proven it is dedicated to helping primary school students discover their inner scientists.

To qualify for the award, the school had to prove its commitment by having youngsters carry out a series of complicated experiments and uploading their results to a nationwide database.

A spokeswoman for the school said: “Earlier this year, we were delighted to be one of the first schools in the country to be awarded the ‘Terrific Scientific’ accreditation.

“The pupils really enjoyed taking part in the investigations and are justifiably very proud of our Terrific Science status. We shall continue to take part in the programme this academic year.”
