Children from a Brentwood school are sending football t-shirts to 100 school children in Peru.
Youngsters at Brentwood Preparatory School have been collecting unwanted shirts for the charity Project Peru, which supports children living in extreme poverty in and around the shanty towns of Lima.
The charity will be sending out material goods, including books and writing equipment, but said the children really wanted football shirts.
The prep children were asked to bring in any old shirts and shorts that they no longer want, any size and for any team.
Jane Long, a teacher at the school, said: “I am pleased to be part of something that will make less fortunate children happy.”
Headteacher Jason Whiskerd said: “Children around the world love sport and especially football. The Brentwood Preparatory School is therefore delighted to be able to give its support to this very worthwhile project and bring a smile to the faces of children who live in extreme poverty.
“We teach our pupils that the opportunities we create for ourselves are best enjoyed when others benefit from them too and we are inspired often by our pupils’ ideas for the School and for the community beyond. They organised and ran fundraising initiatives.”
