Generous shoppers donated £625 in aid of the severely ill 12-year-old Nevan McGing on Saturday.

Nearly every shop in the centre donated money to charity Nevan Needs You as did customers and market stall holders.

Nevan McGing, 12, of Chadwell Heath, suffers from leukaemia, asthma and bronchiectasis.

His illness has resulted in more than 100 hospital admissions.

Family and friends are raising the money to give him much-needed treats, such as toys, gadgets or a trip.

He is undergoing chemotherapy and has had a bone marrow transplant.

The fundraising efforts included that of an eight-year-old boy from Dagenham who raised £100 at the shopping centre.

Charity organiser Bridget O’Driscoll, 42, of Hornchurch, said: “Everyone in Romford has been helping us out, it’s amazing.”

Nevan was diagnosed with the cancer last November and has suffered from the breathing conditions since he was three.

Anybody who wishes to donate money can do so at www.gofundme.com/5wshp0 or contact Bridget on 07462 582 976.
