The meeting has been organised by a new youth campaign group called, Havering Young Residents on Saturday February 23 at Hornchurch Library in North Street.

Starting at 3pm, it is a chance to explore what it means to be a young person in today’s society, what the political issues are and how young residents can work together to overcome these and achieve their full potential.

The group was formed by Alex Donald, who set up a blog last year to get young people in Havering interested in politics.

He said: “My generation has been affected the most by this economic crissi, yet we’re also least likely to get involved in politics.

“High unemployment, expensive education and a lifetime of renting are just three reasons why I’, setting up this group hopefully to inspire young residdents to help themselves in a fun and engaging way.”

He added: “I want politicians, business and civil society leaders on side and use social media to make things happen.

“This task won’t happen overnight. It’s going to take lots of time and effort, but I want to make a start now so that young residents in my borough are empowered and don’t become victims.”
