Legendary Corrie star Bruce Jones has stepped off the cobbles and on to the big screen as he stars in Looters, Tooters and Sawn-off Shooters.

Jones, 61, was on our screens in ITV’s soap opera Coronation Street, as lovable Les Battersby for 10 years. But has since returned to his roots by taking on the role of Roy, in the new movie made by up and coming Romford directors, Paul and Darren King, also known as the King brothers (see pages 2&3).

He said: “I think these guys really do have something. The script is amazing and I think if this is what they can do on a low budget, what will they be able to do if they make it big!”

Bruce has appeared in commercials as well as other movies such as the 90s comedy film Twenty Four Seven, before he entered the world of the Street.

It was when he sat down in a pub with a casting agent late one night, that he was told he would be given the opportunity of a lifetime.

He said: “I was told it was Coronation Street and I was like, ‘this family is never going to fit in to that show!’ And for the first two years it was hell for the family as no one liked them.

“But once they were portrayed a bit better, it was like Heaven.

“Every time I would go into the pub I wouldn’t have to buy a drink as people offered to buy me one for just playing Les.”

Bruce decided to take a step back from the Street so he could widen his horizons in acting.

He said: “I just felt like I didn’t want to be typecast and that I wanted to do something different.

“I adore Les. He is such a great character to play and every scene was either sad or funny so it was never dull.”

Then when he heard of Looters... , Bruce jumped at the chance to appear in the film and looks forward to its release.

He said: “This film is not only a gangster movie, it has a great story.

“It has a sense of morality and I think it has a lot to offer.”
