Fears over application for new dog salon metres from Rainham pooch parlour

PUBLISHED: 17:42 05 March 2014 | UPDATED: 17:42 05 March 2014

A dog grooming salon fears it will have to close if a new pooch parlour is allowed to open just metres away.

Gabrielle’s Dog Grooming, in Crown Parade, Rainham, has been open for three years but owner Nicky Drummond worries competition so close could make business difficult.

A planning application is under consideration for another a dog grooming salon 130 metres away in Upminster Road South.

Nicky’s partner, Chris, said the two parlours would be in sight of each others’ doors.

He added: “If this application goes ahead it could cause Nicky to close and I feel this would be a sad loss not only for Rainham but its dog owners.”

The couple are formally opposing the application, which planning officers from Havering Council are still considering.
